The False Ones

Creatures inhabit the moors surrounding the Yorkshire village of Dobcroft; ancient things that want to come in from the cold.  They will take the shape of a lost child, an unrequited love, an estranged wife, or a late husband.  Anything to be allowed a place by the fireside.  It's an open secret around these parts that those thought dead, gone forever, long-departed, or missing may yet come back.  Those that know have a name for the returned.  They call them the false ones.

Get acquainted.

When Benjamin's car breaks down on the Yorkshire Moors, in the short story "THE SECRECY OF THE HEART" published in Supernatural Tales #49, he's forced to go to an isolated house for help.  But what he finds at the house is an old woman with two men held captive, one by chains and another by the heartstrings.  After some rash behaviour results in him being forced to take part in a hunt out on the pitch-black moor, Benjamin is made to confront his own innermost secrets and desires.

Following some strange events that have shaken the quiet village of Dobcroft,  Detective Inspector Archie Drugan goes door to door as part of a special division assigned to investigate.  But if what he's been told in the conference room back at the police station is true, it's possible the information he's gathered about one particular Dobcroft resident may present a solution to his own personal heartache.  'THE SILENCE OF THE HEART' was published in The Ghastling #18.

THE FALSE ONES: the novel where it all begins.

When Julie Swann flees her husband and job in the city, she thinks she’s leaving her problems behind. But the small Yorkshire village she escapes to has some terrifying secrets.
When romance blossoms with old school friend Aaron Carter, Julie finds herself drawn into the horrors he’s unwittingly stumbled into.
And now…anyone they know could be one of them.

In THE TREACHERY OF THE HEART, published in the anthology 'Through the Briar Patch' from Hollow Oak Publishing a woman living with her elderly husband in an isolated house high on the moor becomes nervous when news reaches her of shootings and police activity in the nearby village of Dobcroft.  An encounter with a stranger on the moor will bring the reason for her unease into the light.
